Kingdom Monera
A kingdom of single-celled prokaryotic organisms consisting of the smallest living organisms, such as bacteria and blue-green algae (cyno-bacteria).
Cyno-bacteria
Blue-green algae classified as prokaryotes within Kingdom Monera.
Cellular Organization of Monera
Microscopic and single-celled organisms that lack a definite true nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.
Monera Cell Wall
A rigid outer layer that does not contain cellulose, but is composed of protein and fatty acid, or peptidoglycan in bacteria.
Peptidoglycan
The substance that makes up the rigid cell wall in bacteria.
Ribosomes (in Monera)
The only cell organelle present in organisms of Kingdom Monera, which otherwise lack cell organelles.
Monera Nuclear Material
DNA that distributes freely in the cytoplasm rather than being enclosed in a true nucleus.
Binary Fission
The mode of reproduction utilized by organisms in Kingdom Monera.
Monera Motility
The locomotive characteristic of Monera organisms, which can be either motile or non-motile.
Monera Chromosome
A structure carrying genetic material that lies free on a particular part of the bacterial cell.
