Muscular System
Flexion
Decrease in joint angle from anatomical position

Extension
Return to anatomical position after part of body was flexed

Hyperextension
Extension beyond anatomical position

Abduction
Movement of the limbs in the coronal plane away from the body

Adduction
Return of the part of the body to its anatomical position

Circumduction
Proximal end of limb is relatively stationary while distal end is tracing a circle

Rotation (medial and lateral)
Movement of part of body around an axis (internal and external)

Pronation
medial rotation of the forearm and consequently the hand as well

Supination
Lateral rotation of the forearm and consequently the hand as well.

Inversion
Turning the sole of the feet medially so they face each other.

Eversion
Turning the soles of the feet laterally.

Plantar Flexion
pointing your foot downwards

Dorsiflexion

Origin
The stationary or less moveable bone that a muscle is attached to.
Insertion
The bone the is moved by the attached muscle
Agonist (prime mover)
Primary muscle directly responsible for producing a specific movement at a joint.(ex: biceps brachii)
Antagonists
Muscle that opposes or reverses the movement of the agonist. (Ex: Triceps brachii)
Synergists
Muscles that assist the agonist by adding extra force to the same movement or reducing unnecessary movement.
Fixator
special synergist that immobilizes a bone so the agonist has a stable base to exert force.
