Mononuclear Carbonyls
Carbonyl complexes containing only one metallic atom per molecule, represented as M(CO)y (e.g., Cr(CO)6).
Polynuclear Carbonyls
Carbonyl complexes containing two or more metallic atoms per molecule, represented as Mx(CO)y (e.g., Fe3(CO)12).

Chromium Hexacarbonyl Structure
An octahedral mononuclear complex (Cr(CO)6) with d2sp3 hybridization, featuring a linear M−CO bond, a Cr−C bond length of 1.92A˚, and a C−O bond length of 1.16A˚.
Iron Pentacarbonyl
A mononuclear carbonyl (Fe(CO)5) with trigonal bipyramidal shape and dsp3 hybridization, possessing an apical Fe−C bond length of 1.806A˚ and an equatorial Fe−C bond length of 1.833A˚.
Nickel Tetracarbonyl
A mononuclear carbonyl (Ni(CO)4) with tetrahedral shape and sp3 hybridization, having a Ni−C bond length of 1.50A˚.
Dimanganese Decacarbonyl
A binuclear carbonyl complex (Mn2(CO)10) where each manganese atom undergoes d2sp3 hybridization and the Mn−Mn bond distance is 2.79A˚.
Cobalt Octacarbonyl
A binuclear carbonyl complex (Co2(CO)8) existing in bridged and non-bridged structural forms, where each cobalt atom is d2sp3 hybridized and the Co−Co bond distance is 2.52A˚.
Di-iron Ennea Carbonyl
A diamagnetic binuclear carbonyl (Fe2(CO)9) composed of two face-sharing octahedra, containing 3 bridging carbonyls, 6 terminal carbonyls, and an Fe−Fe bond distance of 2.46A˚.
Heme Group
An iron-porphyrin complex in haemoglobin consisting of a central Fe(II) atom coordinated to four nitrogen atoms of a planar, conjugated porphine ligand.

Haemoglobin Sub-unit
A structural component of haemoglobin consisting of a heme group, a globin protein chain, and a histidine unit.
Phorphine Ligand
A macrocyclic ligand with nitrogen donor centers that combines with Fe to form the structure of the heme group.
Chlorophyll
A magnesium-porphyrin complex acting as a green pigment in plants, where central Mg is bonded to four nitrogen atoms of porphyrin to convert light energy into chemical energy during photosynthesis.
Vitamin B12
A cobalt-containing co-enzyme complex (cyanocobalamin) where Co(III) is octahedrally coordinated at the center of a non-conjugated macrocyclic corrin ring, a sugar-phosphate-base organic unit, and a sixth ligand x.
Pernicious Anaemia
A medical condition in humans caused by a deficiency of vitamin B12.
EDTA
Ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid, a hexadentate ligand with 2 nitrogen and 4 oxygen donor centers used to estimate and remove water hardness by forming complexes with Ca2+ and Mg2+.
Eriochrome Black T
An indicator used during EDTA titration for water hardness at pH 10, changing from wine red to blue at the end point.
Dimethyl Glyoxime (DMG)
An organic precipitant used to quantitatively precipitate nickel as a rosy red Ni(DMG)2 complex for gravimetric analysis.

Oxine
An organic reagent (8-hydroxy quinoline) that forms crystalline metal precipitates such as [Al-oxine] for the gravimetric estimation of aluminium.
