What does the cerebrum do?
Largest part of the brain (~83%)
• Conscious behaviors, sensations,
language, thought, emotions,
learning, memory, etc.
• 2 sides: R & L cerebral hemispheres
What are sulci?
Fissures/ grooves in cerebrum that separate lobes of cerebrum. (frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal)
What are gyri?
Folds of the brain in cerebrum
Certain functional areas are
associated with specific gyri of
the brain?
1. Sensory areas receive
information
2. Motor areas control voluntary
movements
3. Association areas integrate
complex functions
Precentral gyrus?
• Location of the primary
motor cortex
• Initiates voluntary
movements
Postcentral gyrus?
• Location of the primary
somatosensory cortex
• Processes conscious
somatic sensations
