Primary type of body tissue, protects other tissues and organs, made of living extracellular matrix, come from embryonic tissue, mesenchyme

Three structural components of Connective tissue

Cells, Fibers, Ground substance

Ground substance

Unstructured material that fills space between cells and contains the fibers, makes up extracellular matrix with fibers

Interstitial fluid

Part of ground substance, large fluid, molecular passageway for nutrients and other dissolved substances to be diffused through

Cell adhesion proteins

apart of ground substance, acts as glue keeping extracellular matrix together

Proteoglycans

Part of ground substance, Made of protein core large polysaccharides can connect to

Fibers

proteins, provide support, makes up extracellular matrix with ground substance

Collagen fiber

Type of fiber, strongest and most abundant, secretes into extracellular spacce

Elastic fibers

Type of fiber, have protein, elastin, allowing to stretch, found where greater elasticity needed

Reticular FIbers

Short thinner version of collagen, found where connective tissue with other tissue type

Elastic tissue

type of dense tissue, stretchy, in ligaments
