what is the job of the kreb cycle?
to strip high energy electrons from Acetyl-coA and load them onto NADH and FADH2 so they can make their way to ETC
first step of Krebs cycle + enzyme
the 2-carbon Acetyl-coA combines with 4-carbon Oxaloacetate (which is already present in cycle) to form a 6-carbon molecule called Citrate. coA is released
enzyme used is citrate synthase

2nd step of krebs cycle + enzyme
Citrate is rearranged into Isocitrate
enzyme is Aconitase

3rd step of kreb cycle + enzyme
isocitrate is oxidized
one carbon is removed as co2
NADH formed
isocitrate becomes the 5 carbon molecule a-ketoglutarate
enzyme is Isocitrate dehydrogenase

4th step of krebs cycle + enzyme
a-ketoglutarate is oxidized and becomes Succinyl-coA
NADH formed
enzyme is a-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase

5th step of krebs cycle + enzyme
Succinyl coA - with high energy bond bc of coA - breaks the bond releasing lots of energy. the energy makes GTP / ATP. the coA is removed forming succinate.
enzyme is SuccinylcoA-sythetase

6th step of krebs cycle + enzyme
succinate is oxidized but this time FADH2 is the acceptor.
succinate → Fumurate
enzyme is Succinate dehydrogenase

7th step of krebs cycle + enzyme
water is added to fumarate
fumarate + H2o → Malate
enzyme is fumarase

8th and final step of krebs cycle + enzyme
malate is oxidized which regenerates oxaloacetate and cycle restarts
NADH formed
enzyme is malate dehydrogenase

what does Krebs cycle produce?
results for 2 Acetyl coA:
6NADH
2FADH2
2ATP
