What is the purpose of the CPU?
Processes data and instructions
Controls the operation of the Computer
What is Cache?
Stores Frequently used data and instructions
Allows the CPU to access them quicker
What is the PC?
Holds the address of the next instruction to be fetched
MAR
Holds the address of the memory location currently being accessed
MDR
Holds data or an instruction being transferred between the CPU and memory
Accumulator
Holds the result of a calculation or data currently being processed
What is the difference between MAR and MDR
The MAR holds an address
The MDR holds data or an instruction
What is the PC?
The PC moves to the next memory address
This allows the CPU to fetch the next instruction
Explain the fetch-decode-execute cycle
The Pc holds the address of the next instruction
The address is copied to the MAR
The Instruction is fetched from memory and placed in the MDR
The PC moves to the next instruction
The Cu decodes the instruction
The CPU then executes it
