Mielipidepuhe
An argumentative speaking task in the YKI test where the speaker expresses an opinion on a given topic and justifies it logically.
Sisältö (Content)
An evaluation criterion (0−2 points) verifying if the candidate answers the questions, maintains logical consistency, and handles the topic diversely.
Sanasto ja rakenne (Vocabulary and Structure)
An evaluation criterion (0−2 points) assessing the clarity of language, variety of vocabulary, and use of correct grammatical structures like opinion and reason-based sentence types.

An evaluation criterion (0−1 point) measuring how fluently and independently the candidate speaks during the task.
Valmistautumisaika
A 2-minute preparation time provided to read the topic, think of points, and write down short notes.
Puheaika
The approximately 2-minute period during which the candidate must speak continuously.
Johdanto
The introduction of the speech, which covers the background and a brief statement of the speaker's main position.
Perustelukappaleet
Body paragraphs (2−3 total) that each contain a claim (väite), reasoning (perustelu), and an example or supporting information (esimerkki/tieto).
Vastanäkemys
The presentation of a fair counter-argument followed by its refutation (kumoaminen) to strengthen the speaker's own position.
Päätös
The conclusion of the speech, which summarizes main points, repeats the main opinion, and provides a future outlook or recommendation.

Self-service; a practice topic examining the efficiency or drawbacks of automated services like grocery checkouts and online banking.
Uusperhe
A blended family; a discussion topic related to Finnish statistics showing nearly 50% of marriages end in divorce.
Tinkiminen
Haggling or price negotiation; a topic used to compare cultural attitudes toward fixed vs. standard prices.
Tuulipukukansa
A specific term used in the notes to describe how Finns are sometimes criticized for their style of dress (literally 'shell-suit people').

A Finnish proverb meaning 'Blood is thicker than water,' used as a prompt to discuss whether relatives are more important than friends.
