Standard Woman Body Proportion
The standard head-to-body proportion where a woman's head is approximately 71 of her overall body height.

Standard Man Body Proportion
The standard head-to-body proportion where a man's head is approximately 81 of his overall body height.

Ectomorph
A body type characterized by a tall and slender body, narrow frame, longer legs, arms, and neck, with neither shoulders nor hips being dominant.

Mesomorph
A body type characterized by a rectangle-shaped, athletic, and muscular frame with dominant shoulders and balanced proportions in the legs, arms, and neck.

Endomorph
A body type characterized by a short, compact, softer, and rounder frame with wider shoulders and hips, and shorter legs, arms, and neck.
Hourglass Body Shape
A body shape defined by a round bottom and thighs, small waist, and full bust, for which most hair styles will be complementary.
Apple (Oval) Body Shape
A body shape featuring fullness around the middle torso, narrower shoulders and hips, and an average to larger bust; design recommendations include adding an illusion of angularity and avoiding soft, round shapes.
Triangle (Pear) Body Shape
A body shape that is widest at the waist and hips with narrower chest and shoulders; recommendations include drawing the eye upward and creating angularity in hair design while avoiding narrow shapes.
Inverted Triangle Body Shape
A body shape with a smaller bottom half, a straight and square shoulder line, and narrower hips; recommendations include maintaining fullness in hair to balance shoulder width and avoiding excess height.
Rectangle Body Shape
A body shape where shoulders and hips are approximately the same width with a smaller bust; design choices aim to draw the eye upward and utilize softer, rounder styles to offset body angularity.
Trapezoid Body Shape
A body shape characterized by broader shoulders and relatively narrow hips, which can complement most hairstyle choices.

Three-Sectioning
An effective method to measure facial proportions: Section 1 spans front hairline to middle of eyebrows, Section 2 spans middle of eyebrows to bottom of nose, and Section 3 spans bottom of nose to tip of chin.
Oval Face Shape
A face shape that is round, overall long and narrow, with all three facial sections approximately equal in proportion and no dominant areas.
Round Face Shape
A face shape that is round, overall short and wide, often featuring a low round hairline and a shorter chin with a round jawline.
Square Face Shape
A face shape that is angular, short, and wide, where the front hairline and jawline appear almost horizontal, and cheekbones protrude very little on the sides.
Oblong/Rectangle Face Shape
A face shape that is overall long and narrow, where one area (forehead, chin, or middle section) may be longer and more prominent.
Diamond Face Shape
An angular, long, and narrow face shape where the widest area is at the cheekbones, while the forehead and chin are narrower.
Heart (Inverted Triangle) Face Shape
A face shape where cheekbones and forehead are the widest parts, narrowing down to an elongated, pointed chin; adding width at the jawline is often recommended.
Profile
An outline of an object or face from the side, characterized primarily by the features of the forehead, nose, and chin.
Straight Profile
A profile with a very slight outward curvature from the front hairline to the tip of the nose, and from the tip of the nose to the chin; considered the archetype profile.
Convex Profile
A profile with a strong or exaggerated outward curvature, resulting from either a protruding nose or a sloping forehead or chin.
Concave Profile
A profile with an inward curve, most often resulting from a dominant, protruding forehead and chin, or a small nose.
Angular Profile
A profile featuring a somewhat sloping forehead combined with a strong or protruding jaw and chin.
Sideburn Considerations
Facial styling elements whose length is determined by facial structure, hair growth area, individual features, and visual balance with the nape hairline; long horizontal sideburns can make the face look slimmer and ears look smaller.
Lifestyle Factors
Client considerations evaluated to determine a hair design's practicality, including job/career, hobbies, family, time available, finances, and hair care skills.
