1/4
Vocabulary flashcards covering the daily importance of carbon, covalent compound formation, and the electron-dot structure of chlorine.
Importance of Carbon
The foundation of our body, food, environment, and daily life, including food sources, plastic bottles, clothes, wooden tables, fuel, and medicines (accounting for values such as 18% C and 40−50% C).
Covalent Compounds
A compound formed by sharing of electrons between two atoms.
Chlorine (Cl) Electronic Configuration
The arrangement of electrons for chlorine (atomic number 17), which has a valence shell configuration of 2,8,7 and achieves a stable 2,8,8 configuration by sharing electrons.
e-dot structure
A diagrammatic representation using dots and crosses to show valence shell electrons and their sharing between atoms in the formation of molecules such as Cl2.
Formation of Cl2
The covalent bonding process between two chlorine atoms, each sharing one electron from its valence shell to achieve a complete octet configuration of 2,8,8.
