What is the environmental issue?

Informal dumpsites along the Saigon River pollute the water and the land beside it. Water that soaks through waste (leachate) carries salt, organic matter, and metals into soil and rivers.

Research Question

How does the percentage (%) of landfill water in the Saigon River, HCMC, in the solution (0, 25, 50, 75, 100) affect the mean root length (mm) of mung beans seedlings on filter paper in the school grow room from October-November

How it will be controlled (exact same sample of landfill water)

The same enclosed jar will be used to collect a large sample of landfill water from the same location on the bank of the Saigon River in District 7 to ensure that the landfill water carries the same pollutants across all experiments

How it will be controlled (5 days)

Set an alarm for 5 days, starting from a week and collect the root measurements on Friday after the week ends to ensure that every mung bean seedlings have the same amount of time to grow

How it will be controlled (5 seeds per dish)

Use the same type and amount of mung bean seeds (5 only) for every trial for every trial to ensure the ensure the same advantage for all seeds and allow the experiment to be consistent and fair

How much data?

5 dependent variables, 5 dishes for each variable, 25 trials total

5 seeds for every dish, 125 seeds total

Where, and when?

At the school grow room, the jar of waste water will be collected in District 7 by the bank of the Saigon River during Fall Break so the experiment can begin a week after returning to school (after Fall Break, Oct 19th) for 5 days.
