Alliance
An agreement or treaty to cooperate
Assimilation
To conform another (to use force to make a group/individual take the custom/beliefs of another)
Consensus
An agreement in which everyone agrees on a decision
Culture
The behaviours and beliefs of a specific race, ethnicity, or age group
Democracy
A state of society characterized by equality of rights and privileges
Elders
An older, influential, and respected member of a society, tribe, or community
Indigenous Peoples
The original people of a land
Matrilineal
Inheriting or determining descent through the female line. Women may be a part of decision making or holding power.
Oral culture
A culture that is communicated and continued through spoken word
Patrilineal
Inheriting or determining descent or decision making through the male line. Males may be a part of decision making or holding power.
Pluralistic
Having or containing many different aspects or parts
Sovereign
Having the power to independently control/govern oneself (supreme rule)
Stereotype
To make unfair/uninformed characterization/groupings with facts
World view
A way of seeing the world around you based on your own values
Economic Structure
A structure in society that deals with goods, services, resources, trading, technology, and wealth.
Political Structure
A structure in society that shows how groups interact with politics, government, power, laws, rights, and responsibilities.
Social Structure
A structure in society that deals with interaction of people and how people relate to one another. One will focus on roles in society, religion, culture, traditions, education, etc.
