What was Murdock's aim?
he set out to see if memory of words was affected by the number of words a person had to remember.
what was Murdock's method?
103 psychology students were tested in groups over a number of different sessions, they listened to 20 word lists with different words varying from 10 to 40 words, after the list they had to recall what they had learnt.
what was Murdock's results?
most people remembered the first few and last few words (primacy and recency) as its in your LT and ST
What was Murdock's conclusion?
this demonstrated the 'serial position effect'. Recency effects are the strongest
