Civilian Casualties
The number of non-military persons killed or injured in a war.
Total War
A type of conflict where all of a nation's resources are mobilized toward the war effort, often impacting civilians severely.
Requisitioning
The act of taking or demanding something, often used in wartime to commandeer resources.
Feudal System
A system of land ownership and obligations in medieval Europe where lords owned the land and vassals served them.
Plunder
To steal goods violently from a place or person, often used in the context of war.
Siegess
Military operations in which an enemy force surrounds a town or building, cutting off essential supplies.
Free Quarter
Permission for soldiers to take shelter or supplies from civilians, often leading to hardship for the latter.
Civil War
A war between groups within the same country for control of the government.
Home Front
The civilian sector of a nation at war, particularly in terms of resources and support for the military.
High Taxes
Increased financial levies imposed on citizens, often rising during times of war to fund military efforts.
IOU
A document acknowledging a debt, often left by soldiers requiring local civilians to provide food or shelter.
Typhus
A disease caused by Rickettsia bacteria, often spreading in crowded and unsanitary conditions during conflicts.
