Her hand glides across the smooth, black-rimmed cashmere of the office chair before sitting down, contemplating how she will execute her indoctrination

This email is in response to the rather unexpected demonstration which was recently broadcasted upon Nova Tech's clinically sterile architecture. The poster. I must say the lady - ripping the tape off of her mouth, her sullen composure - is convincing to say the least.

 I even slouched in my chair. Hmphh. What would have really topped it off would have been some moving words underneath. Something like “See it. Say it.” 

That would have sunk me right through my chair. 

We hear you. 

When I say that, understand that my eyes have merely scanned the poster and not that it made me feel in any way empathic towards your constant proposals for a voice within this non-democratic society.

I feel compelled to change your view on the work we do here at our department. Please, be reminded that our “interventions” are not acts of censorship or constriction, but one of systemic optimisation.

Your current protests are extremely energy draining. Clinging to the “hope” or “illusion” that one day your voice will be heard. It's adorable, really. But that “day” simply does not exist within our projections. 

Here, our protocols provide a straightforward approach that quells disturbance, rather than confirming the reductive interpretation of Nova Tech. An “exploitation of power” and a “mechanism of suppression”, was how you phrased it. Lets soften this language and adhere to a shared common interest,  which is to reduce any potential threats that impact our future. 

Humph “our” future. More like your futile, damned future.

You have raised concerns regarding our current ruling as being “stagnant” and “non-conservative”, ultimately limiting our society from progressing in the future.

 These words you've chosen are alarmingly loud and punchy!

Considering you’ve had your mouth covered by tape this whole time. 

However, in a world that prioritises silence and tranquillity, we prefer to navigate with “Measured Progression”. For you, silence would be an act of complicity. An act of enslavement.  But for us, it leads down a path of destruction. Every time you decide to utilise your voice, it introduces a variable. A variable that will take time to consider, tackle, resolve - and, most importantly, a factor that disrupts our equilibrium of placidness and silence. Here, in our quiet headquarters, we don't want noise and bedlam, and we most certainly do not want you to use your voice to reject complicity. All we ask is that silence is kept constant. 

So for this, I'll propose to you an ultimatum. 

This “generous offer” will be more than enough to pacify this “team” and put an end to the tiresome disruption.

You desire a voice? You shall have one. But it can no longer be pasted across our building.

'The poster works wonders. A great attempt to induce feelings of compassio or care within Nova Tech. But in our department we have outgrown the need for sentimentality.*

I pause. Much too reactive. If I send this, I’m giving them the validation of an opponent. I just want to erase. I highlight the paragraph and press delete. The passage returns to a sterile, white void.

 Much better.
