Factor
An expression, number, or variable that is multiplied by another to yield a product.
Factored form
An algebraic expression represented as a product of its prime or irreducible factors, such as 3(x+5) for 3x+15.
Greatest common factor

Like terms
Algebraic terms containing identical variable combinations raised to matching powers, such as 4x2 and −9x2.
Linear expression
An algebraic expression where every variable is raised to an exponent of 1, such as 7x−4.
Monomial
An expression formed by a single term consisting of a constant, a variable, or a product of constants and variables with non-negative integer exponents, such as −6x3y.
Simplest form
The state of an expression where all grouping symbols are removed and all like terms are fully combined.
Term
A distinct part of an algebraic expression consisting of a number, variable, or product of both, separated from other parts by addition or subtraction.
