what is the cell wall made up of
insoluble cellulose
what is the middle lamella
The middle of ullah is the first layer of the plant cell wall to be performed when a plant cell divides, made mainly of calcium pectate (pectin) that binds the layers of cellulose together
what is pectin
A polysaccharide that acts like glue and holds the cell walls of neighbouring plant cells together.
Has lots of negatively charged carboxyl (-COOH) groups and these combine with positive calcium ions to form Calcium pectate
describe the formation of primary cell walls
The cellulose microfibrils and the matrix buildup on either side of the middle lamella - these walls are very flexible With the cellulose microfibrils all orientated in a similar direction
describe the secondary cell wall
The older plant cell wall in which the cellulose microfibres have built up at different angles to each other making the cell wall more rigid
what is the cell wall?
A freely permeable wall around plant cells made mainly of cellulose
what is suberin?
A chemical that impregnate cellulose cell walls in cork tissues and make them impermeable
lignin
A chemical that impregnate cellular cell walls in wood and makes it impermeable
what are plant fibres
Long cells with cellulose cell walls that have been heavily lignified so they are rigid and very strong
plasmodesmata
cytoplasmic bridges between plant cells that allow communication between the cells
symplast
The interconnected cytoplasm of plant cells connected by plasmodesmata
