Evidence Based Practice (EBP)
A problem-solving approach to clinical care that integrates the best research evidence, a nurse's clinical expertise, and patient preferences.
Nursing Research
The use of a systematic and strict scientific process to analyze phenomena of interest to all areas of nursing, including practice, education, and administration.
Translational Research
A systematic approach of converting research knowledge into practical health care applications for improved patient outcomes.
Quantitative Research
A research methodology that uses precise measurement to collect data and analyze it statistically to describe findings or test relationships among variables.
Qualitative Research
A research methodology that investigates questions through narrative data to explore the subjective experiences of human beings and identify patterns and themes.
Research Participants
Volunteers for a specific study project who meet all inclusion criteria, have been informed of all aspects of the study, and have given informed consent.
Integrative Medicine
An approach combining the principles of complementary health approaches, such as mindfulness or acupuncture, with conventional medical approaches.
Background Questions
General knowledge-based questions taking the form 'what is' or 'what does' that seek broad information about a topic such as diseases or medications.
Foreground Questions
Narrow, practice-based clinical questions about a specific issue that assist in finding nursing interventions to improve patient outcomes.

Evidence-based recommendations derived from systematic research reviews that assist health care providers in making clinical decision options by assessing benefits and harms.
