Gay-Lussac’s Law of combining volumes states that the volumes of gases involved in a chemical reaction are in the same ratio as the coefficients for these gases in teh balanced equation for the reaction provided that ____?

all volumes are measure at the same temperature and pressure

What volume of H2 gas at 780 mm Hg and 23 °C is required to produce 10.6 L of NH3 gas at the same temperature and pressure?

N2(g)+3H2(g)—→ 2NH3(g)

15.9 Lof H2

Avogadro’s Law? What is it?

It states that equal volumes of gases contain the same number of molecules if they are at the same temperature and pressure

It states that equal volumes of gases contain the same number of molecules if they are at the same temperature and pressure

Whats a real-life example of avogadro's law?

A balloon is being blown up and air is being blown into it; you are adding more gas molecules (n). As a result, the volume (V) increases, and the balloon expands. If you let air out, the number of molecules decreases, so the volume shrinks.

Combined Gas law? What is it ?

It describes how pressure, volume, and temperature of a constant amount of gas affect each other simultaneously. ( can use in any gas law problem and if theres a constant cross it out !)

Are stp conditions? (temperature pressure and molar volume )

Standard temperature 0 Celsius (273.15 K)

Standard pressure 1 atm (760 mm Hg)

Molar Volume 22.4 L (per mole)

Ideal gas Law PV=nRt

equation of state that desribes the behavior of a hypothetical ideal gas

8
New cards

PV =nRT what do they stand for and their unit?

P = Pressure (torr , atm, and mm Hg)

n = Amount of substance (moles)

R = ideal gas constant (0.08206 L x atm / (mol x K))

T = Temperature ( Convert celsius to Kelvin (K = Celsius + 273.15))

9
New cards

Molar Volume of Ideal gas at Standard Temperature and Pressure (STP)

22.4 liters (L)

10
New cards

The molar volume of a gas is the volume occupied at STP by what?

22,400 mL of gas
