A benign fibrosis-osseous developmental anomaly of the mesenchymal precursor of bone, manifested as a defect in Osteoblastic differentiation and maturation
Fibrous dysplasia
When does fibrous dysplasia occur
1st and 2nd demands of life
Types of fibrous dysplasia
Monoatomic form (one spot)= ribs, proximal femur, and craniofacial bones
Polyostotic form (this is Paget's)
Polyostotic with endocrine abnormalities
Signs and symptoms of fibrous dysplasia
Dependent on type of disease
Usually asymptomatic while others have pain secondary to deformity or fracture
What is Polyostotic fibrous dysplasia that has Cafe au lait spots
McCabe- Albright syndrome
-endocrine dysfunction- in early onset puberty in females

Radiological features of fibrous dysplasia
Most medullary cavities are lucent, loculated or trabeculae with thick rim of sclerosis= RIND SIGN
Thinning of Cortex, widening of shaft
INTERNAL MATRIC IS USUALLY CLOUDY= GROUND GLASS APPEARANCE
Radiological features of fibrous dysplasia in the skull
Oven ares have increased density along convexity of anterior fossa
Unilateral overgrowth of facial bones
Expansion in skull bones and ribs
Possible complications of fibrous dysplasia
Leg length discrepancy y
Shepards crook or Sabre shin deformities
Cranial nerve compromise
Protusio acetabuli
Proptosis (Bulging eyes)
Fibrous dysplasia in the femur
I'll not refer to orthopedic cause it doesn't hurt or effect the cortex

Another example of fibrous dysplasia in the proximal femur

Fibrous dysplasia showing the ground glass appearance

Example of fibrous dysplasia causing a Shepards crook deformity and explain why its not Paget's
Not Paget's because it doesn't have thickened cortex, no accentuated trabeculation and this is a kid, Paget's is in 20-40 ur old people

Difference between Enchondroma, fibrous dysplasia and simple bone cyst

Fibrous dysplasia of the skull and facial bones
