what parable for bliks

parable of the lunatic

bliks = non-cognitive, unfalsifiable, BUT still meaningful to individual (shape their life)

  • lunatic thinks professors want to murder him

    • meaningful = changes his behaviour

  • no matter how many nice professors introduced to, won’t change his mind

    • not prepared to accept belief as wrong = shows how meaningful it is to him

New cards

FLEW’s counterarguments

  • theists see it as fact not ‘personal worldviews’

    • devalues RL

  • deceitful to treat RL as ‘blik’

    • tells people how to live their lives

  • religious ideas might be fraudulent

    • silly to base whole life around whim
