Gram Stain Sequence

  2. Gram’s iodine: Stabilizes color complex

  3. Decolorizer: mixture of acetone and alcohol

  4. Safranin: counterstain

7
New cards

Why are Gram-Positive envelopes purple?

Retains the crystal violet-iodine complex because of the hick peptidoglycan

8
New cards

Why are Gram-Negatives pink?

Loses the primary complex, then takes up safranin
