Nephrostomy
A procedure that creates an artificial opening in the kidney for urinary excretion, primarily used to treat obstructive uropathy.
Hydronephrosis
Dilation of the renal pelvis and calyces due to urinary obstruction.
Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
A fluoroscopic examination to evaluate the uterus and fallopian tubes, often used in infertility assessments.
Complications of Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
Includes common occurrences like cramping and blood spotting, as well as serious risks like pelvic infection and perforation.
Barium swallow
A radiographic examination using barium sulfate to visualize the esophagus and assess swallowing function.
Oesophageal stenting
A procedure to relieve dysphagia by placing a stent in the esophagus to treat obstructions.
Indications for Nephrostomy
Includes renal tract obstruction, stone disease, malignancy, benign stricture, and unknown causes.
Contraindications for Nephrostomy
No absolute contraindications, but uncorrectable coagulopathy and terminal illness may be relative contraindications.
Oesophageal Stenting Complications
Includes inability to deploy stent, aspiration, oesophageal perforation, significant hemorrhage, and stent migration.
Barium swallow pathologies
Can reveal conditions such as diverticula, strictures, tumors, and abnormal swallowing functions.
