Dot (or point)
The smallest and most fundamental visual element in art, which indicates a specific location in space and has no dimensions.
Line
A point moving in space that has length and direction. Lines can be straight, curved, thick, or thin, and are primarily used to suggest movement, lead the eye, or define edges.
Shape
A closed, two-dimensional flat area defined by edges. Shapes can be geometric (squares, circles) or organic/free-form (clouds, leaves).
Form
The three-dimensional equivalent of shape, adding depth, height, and volume. Forms can be actual (like a sculpture) or implied through shading and perspective in a painting.
Space
The area within, around, or between objects. It includes positive space and negative space.
Positive space
The focal point within an area of space.
Negative space
The empty background within an area of space.
