Tree data structure characteristics
Hierarchical structure
Not directed
Data stored in nodes
Nodes are linked by branches/edges
Has a root node
Each node can have child nodes beneath it
It has nodes without any nodes beneath (leaf nodes)
It has no cycles/loops
How is a leaf node deleted from a binary search tree?
Search tree until target node is found
Set parent node pointer to NULL
Memory is then freed via garbage collection
How is a value searched for in a binary search tree?
Check if root node equals value
If yes, return value
If value less than root, take left subtree
If value more than root, take right subtree
Repeat process with the subtree until either the value is found or no more branches can be travelled
When is the root node searched in post-order traversal?
Last
When is the root node searched in pre-order traversal?
First
When is the root node searched in in-order traversal?
Somewhere near the middle
HTML for submit button in form
<input type=”submit”>
Class example (pseudocode)
class video
private name
private views
private stars
public procedure new(nameInput)
name = nameInput
views = 0
stars = 3
endprocedure
endclass
How do you declare the constructor method in Pseudocode?
public procedure new(var1input, var2input)
Procedures vs Functions
Procedures: Do not return a value, only perform a specific task
Functions: Manipulates data and returns values
Delete record in SQL
DELETE FROM Table
WHERE Column = “Value”
What should you do after normalising a binary number?
Explicitly state that the binary point has moved 4 places left
1NF requirements
All values must be atomic (cannot have multiple values in one record)
No repeated attributes
Identified primary key
Each attribute name is unique
2NF requirements
Must be in 1NF
Must contain no partial dependencies (Every non-key must depend on the entire primary key)
3NF requirements
Must be in 2NF
Must contain no transitive dependencies (non-keys cannot depend on other non-keys)
Address Bus
Transmits the memory address
1-way
Data bus
Transmits data/instructions between CPU and main memory
2-way
Control bus
Transmits control signals to control/coordinate CPU operations
2-way
