Migration
The movement of organisms from one habitat to another, usually following a well-defined route and often driven by resource availability.
Migrant
An organism that undergoes migration.
Resident
Organisms that do not migrate.
Obligate Migration
A fixed migration pattern that occurs every year, regardless of environmental conditions.
Facultative Migration
A flexible migration pattern that varies based on current conditions and is optional.
Complete Migration
When entire populations of a species migrate.
Partial Migration
When only some individuals of a population migrate while others remain.
Differential Migration
Variation in migration patterns within populations based on age or sex.
Seasonal Migration
Predictable migration that occurs during a particular season.
Irruptive Movements
Variable movements that occur due to changing food conditions.
Diurnal Migration
Migration that takes place during the day.
Nocturnal Migration
Migration that occurs during the night.
Altitudinal Migration
Migration between different elevations.
Binomial Naming
A naming system that uses two names (genus and species) to categorize an organism, ensuring precise identification. Is two words, had first word capitalized and rest lower.
Hierarchical Classification
A system that organizes species from broad to specific categories.
Hierarchy list
The full sequence is: Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species.
Spatial Migration
The distance and altitude of the migration
Altitudinal migration
migration between different elevations (some birds migrate to higher elevations for breeding)
Short distance migration:
For birds breeding within US/Canada
Long distance migration:
For birds breeding beyond US/Canada
