Glycin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(H)−COOH, containing a single hydrogen atom as its side chain.

Alanin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH3)−COOH, containing a methyl group (−CH3) as its side chain.
Valin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH(CH3)2)−COOH, containing a branched isopropyl side chain.
Leucin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH2−CH(CH3)2)−COOH, containing an isobutyl side chain.
Isoleucin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH(CH3)−CH2−CH3)−COOH, containing a sec-butyl side chain.
Methionin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH2−CH2−S−CH3)−COOH, containing a sulfur-bearing thioether side chain.
Prolin
A cyclic amino acid where the side chain forms a ring structure bonded back to the amine nitrogen, attached to H2N−CH−COOH.
Serin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH2−OH)−COOH, containing a hydroxymethyl side chain (−CH2−OH).
Threonin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH(OH)−CH3)−COOH, containing a hydroxylated side chain (−CH(OH)−CH3).
Cystein
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH2−SH)−COOH, containing a thiol side chain (−CH2−SH).
Asparagin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH2−C(=O)NH2)−COOH, containing an amide side chain.
Glutamin
An amino acid with the chemical structure H2N−CH(CH2−CH2−C(=O)NH2)−COOH, containing an extended amide side chain.

Tyrosin
An amino acid with a 4-hydroxybenzyl side chain attached to the central alpha-carbon H2N−CH−COOH.
Tryptofan
An amino acid with an indole side chain attached via a methylene group (−CH2−) to H2N−CH−COOH.
