Independent Variable
The variable that is changed in an experiment.
Dependent Variable
The outcome you are looking for or what is being measured in an experiment.
Hypothesis
If/then statement; make a testable prediction.
Classification
Organizing data.
Analysis
To examine and interpret the data.
Observation
Take in information through senses.
Scientific Inquiry
Process of asking questions, making observations, and conducting experiments.
Data
Information collected in an experiment.
Control Group
Baseline that is used to compare results.
Constant
An item that is the same in each experiment.
Inference
Make a decision based on observation.
Reflect
To bounce off of a surface without absorbing it.
Transmit
To cause something to pass from one surface to another.
Transparent
Allowing light to pass through so that objects can be easily seen.
Translucent
A surface allowing light but not detailed shapes through.
Opaque
Not able to let light shine through.
Mirror
An opaque material that reflects light.
Glass
A transparent material that both transmits and reflects light.
Wax Paper
A translucent material that transmits light.

Light Reflection on a Mirror
The behavior of light reflecting completely off a mirror surface.

Light Interaction with Glass
The behavior where light is both reflected and transmitted through glass.
Two-Way Mirror
A material that transmits and reflects light. It works when light is on in one room and off in the other, making the room with light see a mirror and the room without light see a window.

One-Way Mirror Light Behavior (Light On in One Room)
When light is on in Room A and off in Room B, light reflects in Room A and transmits into Room B.

One-Way Mirror Light Behavior (Light On in Both Rooms)
When light is on in both rooms, light transmits and reflects in both Room A and Room B.
Force
A push or a pull.
Gravity
The universal force that pulls all objects toward each other.
Impact
When a collision occurs, this is what is felt.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
Potential Energy
Energy that is stored and based on position.
Kinetic Energy
Energy of motion.
Collision
One moving object striking forcibly against another.
Transfer
Generated a change from one object to another.
Acceleration (in Collisions)
When one object hits another object, causing it to speed up, slow down, or change direction.
Newtons
The unit of measurement for force.
