Global climate zones
Divided into three zones: Hot (near equator, e.g., Australia), Temperate (mid latitudes, e.g., Serbia), and Cold (near poles, e.g., Canada).
Hot climates location and types
Found between 30 degrees north and south of the equator. Three types: Equatorial, Savannah, and Hot deserts.
Hot desert location
Between 15 and 30 degrees north and south of the equator.
Hot desert precipitation
Very dry, with less than 10mm of rain per year.
Hot desert temperatures
Ranges from 30 to 50 degrees, with very different temperature ranges between day and night.
Desert natural vegetation
Scarce due to severe water shortage; plants must adapt to hot, dry conditions.
Desert plant adaptations
Deep tap roots and widely spaced plants that find underground water, store water, and survive the heat.
Human activity in deserts
Limited due to climate; severe drought has caused people to migrate and settle in towns.
Desert tourism
Increasing due to areas of natural beauty.
Negative human impact in deserts
Can cause desertification.
