what are the four variabeles that affect conditioning
Trace
Delayed
Simultaneous
Backward
Compound Stimuli
More than one stimulus is percieved in the environment at the same time
Overshadowing
One stimulus "overshadows" the other as a matter of saliency
Blocking
occurs when a previously learned association prevents (or "blocks") a subject from learning a new association
Latent Inhabition
When there is a strong prior experience with a stimulus association, conditioning does occur but it takes many more trials
Classical Conditioning
AKA Stimulus-Stimulus (S-S) Learning, learing to associate 2 stimuli that happen close in time in our enivornment such that one comes to predict the other
Passive Learning
requires NO behavior on ones part.
Ivan Pavlov
Physiologist sho was studying digestion in Dogs.
What are the two types of reflexes?
Unconditioned reflex and Conditioned Reflex
What is an example of unconditioned reflex
Food ----> Salivation (innate/born with it)
What is an example of a conditioned response
Bell ----> Salivation (learned reflex)
What is a neutral stimulus
Any stimulus that initially does not elicit a conditioned response
Higher Ordering
A well established CS can work like a US
Salient
Most noticable, prominant or important
Contingency
The degree to which a particular stimulus follows another, "Rate of Contingency" "IF-Then Rule"
Contiguity
Time between the stimuli, High rates of learning requires short Inter-Stimulus Intervals (time between stimuli
(one exception is taste aversion)
