DDoS
Distributed Denial of Service - An attack method that uses multiple systems to flood a target, preventing legitimate access.
IP Spoofing
A technique where an attacker sends packets from a false (or 'spoofed') source address, making it seem as though the packets are coming from a trusted source.
Botnet
A collection of infected devices that can be controlled remotely to perform malicious tasks, including launching DDoS attacks.
Ransomware
Malicious software that encrypts a victim's data and demands payment to restore access.
Phishing
A method of trying to gather personal information using deceptive emails and websites.
Trojan
A type of malware that pretends to be legitimate software while carrying out malicious actions without the user's knowledge.
Malware
Malicious software designed to harm, exploit, or otherwise compromise a computer system.
Vulnerability
A weakness in a system that can be exploited by cyber attackers to gain unauthorized access or cause harm.
Worms / Virus
Malicious software that self replicates on computers / computer networks without the user being aware.
3 Steps of DDoS
Recruitment — scanning for vulnerable machines
Exploitation/Infection — breaking in and installing attack code (or via Trojans)
Use — subverted machines send attack packets, often with IP spoofed source addresses
