* Indication = Diarrhea, Heartburn, Upset Stomach

- Avoid in pregnant pts

- May cause constipation

- May turn stool and tongue black

- May cause constipation

- Interacts w/ many meds and antibiotics (levothyroxine, ciprofloxacin, etc.) -- making them ineffective in treating bacterial infection

Brand Name: Alka-Seltzer

* Indication = Heartburn, Upset Stomach

- May cause belching

Drug Class: H2-Receptor Antagonists (H2-Blockers)

- Beers meds due to causing or worsening delirium in older pts

- Take 1-2 hours to start working

- Should be taken 1 hour before a meal for best results

- 1 dose can last about 10 hours

- Interacts with many meds (fluoxetine, statins, etc.), causing more side effects
