four ideas of the laws
- the laws can be learned
- the laws can stand alone
- the laws carry consequences with them
- these laws are the foundation of leadership
#1 the law of the lid
Leadership ability is the lid that determines a person's level of effectiveness. The lower an individual's ability to lead, the lower the lid on his or her potential. The higher the leadership lid, the greater the effectiveness.
applying the law of the lid
list some of your major goals and identify which ones requires help from other people asses your leadership ability and ask others to rate your leadership.
#2 the law of influence
Without influence there is no energy to truly lead and influence others. position or experience can give some extra time, and maybe the benefit of the doubt

leading has a different skill set than entrepreneur ship
knowledge myth
IQ or education doesn't necessarily equal leadership

- past success (what they've done)
- ability (what they can do)
#3 the law of process
leaders are learners and develop daily
phase 1 of leadership growth process
I don't know what I don't know. If you don't know what you don't know then you can't grow
phase 2 of leadership growth process
I know that I need to know. Where the process starts awareness that we need to learn how to lead.
phase 3 of leadership growth process
I know what i don't know. Going out there and learning what you didn't know.
phase 4 of leadership growth process
I know and grow, and it starts to show. You will see progress once you recognize your lack of skill and begin the daily discipline of personal growth so that you are ready for your time when it comes.
phase 5 of leadership growth process
I simply go because of what I know. Your ability to lead becomes automatic now that you've developed great instincts.
