Vocabulary flashcards covering the definition, components, and structural anatomy of a prokaryotic cell based on lecture notes.
Prokaryotic Cell
A primitive cell that lacks a membrane bound nucleus and organelles.
Cell Envelope
A trillamellar structure surrounding the cell that is composed of the glycocalyx, cell wall, and cell membrane.
Glycocalyx
The outermost layer of the cell envelope which helps with protection and prevention of dessication.
Cell Wall
The middle layer of the cell envelope which provides rigidity to the cell.
Cell Membrane
The innermost layer of the cell envelope which helps with absorption.

Prokaryotic Cell Diagram
A diagram illustrating the structural features of a prokaryotic cell, including the cell envelope (glycocalyx, cell wall, and cell membrane), pili, 70S ribosomes, nucleoid region, plasmid, and flagella.
