Comprehensive vocabulary flashcards covering key physics concepts, laws, and definitions from the Grade 11 Physical Sciences Paper 1 exam and memorandum.
Vector
A physical quantity having both magnitude and direction.
Newton's First Law of Motion
A body will remain in its state of rest or motion at constant velocity unless a non-zero resultant/net force acts on it.
Newton's Second Law of Motion
When a resultant/net force acts on an object, the object will accelerate in the direction of the force at an acceleration directly proportional to the force and inversely proportional to the mass.
Newton's Third Law of Motion
When object A exerts a force on object B, object B simultaneously exerts an oppositely directed force of equal magnitude on object A.
Kinetic Frictional Force
The force that opposes the motion of a moving object relative to a surface.
Coulomb's Law
The electrostatic force of attraction or repulsion between two charges is directly proportional to the product of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
Electric Field at a Point
The electrostatic force experienced per unit positive charge placed at that point.

Negative Point Charge Electric Field Pattern
An electric field pattern where radial lines of force point symmetrically inward toward the negative point charge and do not cross each other.

Free-Body Diagram (Block Under Angled Pull)
A vector diagram illustrating all external forces acting on a body: normal force (FN) acting upwards, gravitational force (Fg) acting downwards, tension force (T) and kinetic friction (fk) acting to the left, and applied force (F) acting at an angle to the horizontal.
Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction
The magnitude of the induced emf across the end of a conductor is directly proportional to the rate of change in the magnetic flux linkage with the conductor.
Electromotive Force (emf)
The energy given to each coulomb of charge that passes through the battery.
Ohmic Conductor
A conductor where the current is directly proportional to the potential difference across its ends, resulting in a straight-line graph from the origin.
Magnetic Flux Linkage (NΦ)
The product of the number of turns in a coil and the magnetic flux passing through it, where magnetic flux is calculated as Φ=BAcos(θ).
Normal Force (FN)
The perpendicular force exerted by a surface on an object in contact with it, balancing the perpendicular components of applied and gravitational forces.
