Fire Hydrant System Components
An underground and above-ground infrastructure connecting a water supply main to a fire hydrant, consisting of a supply main, gate valve, valve box, hydrant feeder, joint resting gland, gravel drain, and concrete thrust block.
Class C Fire Hydrant
A fire hydrant with an available water flow rate of less than 500gpm (1893L) at 20psi (140kPa), designated by a red color code.
Class B Fire Hydrant
A fire hydrant with an available water flow rate of 500–999gpm (1893–3782L) at 20psi (140kPa), designated by an orange color code.
Class A Fire Hydrant
A fire hydrant with an available water flow rate of 1000–1499gpm (3785–5674L) at 20psi (140kPa), designated by a green color code.
Class AA Fire Hydrant
A fire hydrant with an available water flow rate of 1500gpm (5678L) and higher at 20psi (140kPa), designated by a light blue color code.

Pin Lug
A type of hose coupling lug shaped like a cylindrical pin protruding from the coupling exterior, requiring a spanner wrench for tightening or loosening.
Recessed Lug
A hose coupling lug designed with shallow indentations on the coupling collar to prevent hose snags when dragging.
Rocker Lug
A rounded hose coupling lug with sloped edges designed to slide easily over obstacles during hose advancement without catching.
Gate Valve
A water control valve that utilizes a flat or wedge-shaped gate operated by a threaded stem to open or restrict water flow.

Hose Jacket
A repair device fitted around a damaged or rupture-prone section of a pressurized hose to temporarily seal leaks and allow continued water flow.
