smal paired bones that form the bridge of nose

sphenoid
a complex bone near the center of the skull base behind the eyes

temporal
on sides and base of skull around ears

ethmoid
between the eyes forming part of nasal cavity, nasal septum and medial walls of eye sockets

lacrimal
tiny bone on the inner wall of each eye socket close to tear duct

zygomatic
cheekbone

infraorbital foramen
small opening in the maxilla (upper jaw) just below the eye socket

maxilla
upper jaw bone

mandible
lower jaw bone

mental foramen
small opening on each side of mandible (lower jaw) near the chin

frontal bone
forms forehead and upper part of eye sockets

glabella
smooth area of frontal bone between eyebrows just above the rbidge of nose

supraorbital foramen
an opening along the upper edge of eye socket in frontal bone

vomer
thin, pillow shaped bone that forms the lower and back portion of nasal septum separating the nasal passages

lambdoid suture
separates the parietal and occipital bone

occipital
forms back and much of base of the skull

external occipital protuberance
bump on back of skull near the midline

occipital condyle
one of the smooth rounded surfaces on the underside of the occipital bone that articulates with the atlas (next to foramen magnum)

sagittal suture
runs front to back along top midline of the skull separating the two parietal bones

coronal suture
runs from sides to side across top of skull separating frontal bone from parietal bones

squamous suture
separates parietal and temporal bones

zygomatic process
projection of temporal bone that extends forward to join the zygomatic bone

external acoustic meatus
the opening of the ear canal in the temporal bone

mastoid process
a rounded projection of the temporal bone just behind and below the ear opening

styloid process
a thin, pointed projection extending downward from the temporal bone, below the ear region

condylar process
the rounded upper- back projection of the mandible that meets the temporal bone to form the jaw joint

alveolar processes
the tooth bearing ridges of the maxilla and mandible that contain tooth sockets

coronoid process
the pointed front upper projection of the mandible’s ramus. It provides attachment for a chewing muscle

sella turcica of sphenoid bone
a saddle-shaped depression in the sphenoid bone that houses the pituitary gland

palatine bone
paired bones that form the back portion of the hard palate and contribute to the nasal cavity and eye sockets

crista galli
a vertical, crest-like projection of the ethmoid bone inside the skull, where a membrane supporting the brain attaches
