Lysosomes
Membrane-bound vesicles arising from the Golgi apparatus that contain hydrolytic enzymes used to degrade proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates.
Hydrolytic enzymes
Enzymes formed in the endoplasmic reticulum and transported to the Golgi apparatus by transport vesicles that degrade proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates.
Phagosome
A particle-containing vesicle formed when particles such as viruses or bacteria are ingested by phagocytosis, which fuses with a lysosome.
DNA ligase
An enzyme that joins Okazaki fragments together during the copying of information stored in chromosomes.
Okazaki fragments
DNA fragments generated during chromosome copying that are connected together by the enzyme DNA ligase.
