Dominant Photo
Largest photo on the spread--to treat two pages as one, it should go across the middle where the book is bound.
Layout
The arrangement of elements on a page
Candid Photo
An un-posed or casual picture of a person or group. Unlike posed pictures where someone faces the camera and smiles, these type of photos capture someone doing something in the moment.
Serif Fonts
Fonts that feature small decorative "feet"
Kerning
The space between side-by-side letters that can be adjusted if necessary -- making them appear closer or further apart.

Pica
Unit of measurement on a layout. Six of these equal one inch.
Copy Editing
The process of improving the copy for clarity, accuracy and style

Page-by-page description of the book.

Tells who took the photo

Tells who wrote the story
Signature
Sixteen continuous pages in the book
Colophon
A section at the end of a yearbook that provides information about the book's production, including the staff, printer, and other details
Folio
Includes the page # and content of the page
Captions
Describe the photos. The first sentence is written in present tense and tells what is happening in the photo.The second sentence is written in past tense and tells the background information.
Potrait
A posed photo of a person's head and shoulders. This is what you see in a traditional school photo found in the People section

Alphabetical list of names and the pages they appear on.
Bleeds
When a photo or other element goes beyond the margins and off the page
Drop Cap
A design element that uses a larger letter that appears at the start of a block of text.
Double Page Spread
When two pages of the book are treated as one
Mod
A smaller, secondary story or feature that is placed next to the main content
Gutter
Where the book is bound in the middle.
Copy
All the text on a page
Eyeline
Horizontal space that is kept open, or clear, all the way across two pages.
Headline
Line or lines of large type used to introduce the story.
Theme
An idea or concept that's used to tie together the various sections and stories found throughout the yearbook. It helps tell the story for this year.
