Intermission has ended. Act 2, Scene 1 has begun. You have the first line.
When we get back from the break, there’s a new energy to the group.
TEAM FRANK: Motive!
TEAM TENNESSEE: Evidence!
TEAM DC: Witness!
Now, I know what you’re thinking: shouldn’t we call the cops?
ALL: No!
I’ve found another thing they agree on.
EVELYN: We’ll call them when we solve it.
Then, they start to fight again.
ACTORS: Open it up. Do face recognition.
You can’t lead the investigation. You are all suspects.
DETECTIVES: Let’s see how the master does it.
Well.
ALL: Yeah?
How about you vote on the murderer?
MAYRA: Why not? That’s what a jury does.
It’s what a true crime podcast does. Gets the public to weigh in. How many of you think it was Cecilia?
Kennedy?
Hope?
EVELYN: Why are you really here? Talk!
(A chuckle.) Okay. You got me. I’m here because I’m investigating a John Doe found in the San Marcos River. Only clue? A tattoo on his wrist. One that you all share.
(Gasp from the crew.)
That’s right. Your missing crew member, Hope. And I tell you I was stumped.
LOBSTER: But Hope sent the email to invite you.
No she didn’t.
SADIE: When you arrived today, I showed you Snakey-snake’s tank. Bragged how venomous she is. Put it on thick. I knew you’d be tempted.
You spend hours imagining killing each other. You crave narrative satisfaction.
SADIE: Didn’t need to. Because I put red ink on Snakey’s cage.
Raise your hands. One of you is red-handed!
I knew what I had to do. So I did it… for love! (GASP.)
What?
ACTORS: Awww. (They clap.)
Why are you clapping?
SADIE: You know what this means? (They do. Sadness grips the group.)
What’s it mean?
