Three Stages of Video Production
Pre-production, Production, and Post-production.
Post-production
The stage of production where you do the editing.
Pre-Production
The stage of production where you do all your planning and paperwork.
Production
The stage of production where you actually do the filming.
Treatment
The first step in scriptwriting where you come up with an idea and write down the main characters and plot of the story.
Storyboard Information Requirements
The three areas of information needed on a storyboard: pictures, shot description, and audio.
Tripod Handling Technique
Always carry the tripod by the legs.
Panning
Moving the camera left and right.
Tilting
Moving the camera up and down.
Zooming
Moving closer or farther away from your subject without moving the camera.
Medium Shot
A shot from the waist up.

A shot from the shoulders up.
Long Shot
A shot from the feet up.
Large Depth of Field
When all areas of a scene are in focus.
Rule of Thirds
The concept of placing main elements and subjects at the power points to create a more balanced picture and engage the viewer more readily.
Cut
An instantaneous switch from one video source to another.
Dissolve
A gradual transition from one video picture to another during which the images overlap.
Fade
A gradual transition from video picture to black or from black to video.
Raw Footage
The audio/video recorded on the videotape during a shoot that is edited together.
High Angle Shot
When the camera is set up high, looking down.
Low Angle Shot
When the camera is set up low, looking up.
Backlighting Effect
If you film towards a brighter area than your subjects, your subjects will be too dark.
