What is “queer”
Queer is a multifaceted word which has different meanings and is used in different ways for different people. Examples include
dont conform to cultural norms around gender and sexuality
attraction to people of all genders
a general term refferring to all non-hetrosexuals
What is an intersex person?
An umbrella term that described people born with any of the 30 different variations in sex characteristics including chromosomal, gonads, sex hormones and genitalia
What is a criticism of inclusive language in LGBTQI+ maternity care
the use of inclusive language is seen as undermining the fundamental feminist nature of midwifery care
terms such as mother, breastfeeding, maternity are dearly cherished by woman
What are some of the birthing risks associated with AATSI
Remote locations- more likely than non-indigenous australians to live rurally
less access to health services
poorer access to nutritous food
smoking
poor housing or overcrowding
What are some specific risks/consequences that are associated with AATSI people
preterm birth
low birth weught
