Atlantoscapularis
A deep shoulder and neck muscle in the mink that has no human homolog and is not on the human structure list; visible when the trapezius is reflected.
Rhomboids (mink anatomy)
A group of three muscles in the mink, two of which attach in the head and neck rather than the thoracic vertebrae, which insert at the medial border of the scapula to retract the shoulders.
Pectoralis minor (mink vs. human)
A chest muscle that is larger than the pectoralis major in the mink, whereas in humans it is smaller and completely covered by the pectoralis major.
Pectoralis major (mink vs. human)
A chest muscle that is smaller than the pectoralis minor in the mink, but is the larger muscle that completely covers pectoralis minor in humans.
Adductor femoris
The alternative name in the mink for the adductor magnus muscle of the medial thigh.
Vastus lateralis (mink anatomy)
A lateral quadriceps muscle that lies deep to the iliotibial band in the mink.
Gluteus medius (mink anatomy)
A gluteal muscle that is located deep to the gluteus maximus in the mink.
Temporalis
A masticatory muscle situated on the lateral aspect of the head.
Masseter
A powerful jaw-closing muscle located laterally on the face and cheek area.
Mylohyoid
A muscle located in the anterior neck forming the floor of the oral cavity.
Digastric (anterior belly)
A suprahyoid muscle situated in the anterior neck region that assists in depressing the mandible.
Sternocleidomastoid
An anterior neck muscle extending obliquely along the lateral and anterior aspects of the neck.
Trapezius
A large superficial muscle of the upper dorsal torso and neck that covers deeper scapular muscles.
Latissimus dorsi
A broad, superficial dorsal torso muscle visible in lateral view extending across the middle and lower back.
Levator scapulae
A muscle located along the lateral and posterior neck and dorsal torso that elevates the scapula.
Splenius capitis
A deep muscle of the posterior torso and neck located beneath superficial dorsal musculature.
External abdominal oblique
The most superficial muscular layer of the lateral and anterior abdominal wall.
Internal oblique
The intermediate muscle layer of the anterior abdominal wall located between the external oblique and the transverse abdominal.
Transverse abdominal
The deepest flat muscle layer of the anterior abdominal wall lying deep to the internal oblique.
Serratus anterior
A lateral thoracic wall muscle visible deep to the reflected latissimus dorsi.
Supraspinatus
A shoulder muscle situated superior to the spine of the scapula; in the mink, the underlying scapular spine is covered by muscle attachments.
Infraspinatus
A shoulder muscle situated on the posterior scapula inferior to the scapular spine.
Subscapularis
A rotator cuff muscle covering the anterior (costal) surface of the scapula.
Teres major
A muscle situated at the inferior angle and lateral border of the scapula, observed in the anterior view of the shoulder.
Deltoid
A prominent shoulder muscle capping the glenohumeral joint, visible in lateral view.
Brachialis
A flexor muscle of the arm visible on the lateral arm alongside the triceps brachii.
Triceps brachii
An extensor muscle on the posterior aspect of the arm consisting of a long head, lateral head, and medial head.
Biceps brachii
An anterior arm flexor visible on the medial aspect of the arm; represented on the human model by the short head.
Sartorius
A superficial, band-like muscle located on the anterior and medial thigh.
Gracilis
A superficial strap muscle along the medial thigh that adducts the thigh.
Adductor longus
A medial thigh muscle that functions to adduct the femur.
Semimembranosus
A medial hamstring muscle visible on the medial thigh of the mink adjacent to the severed semitendinosus.
Rectus femoris
A central anterior quadriceps muscle visible from the medial view of the thigh.
Vastus medialis
A medial quadriceps muscle situated along the medial aspect of the anterior thigh.
Tensor fasciae latae
A muscle of the lateral thigh and hip connected with the iliotibial band.
Biceps femoris
A large lateral hamstring muscle of the posterior thigh (featuring a long head in humans).
Iliotibial band
A thick lateral longitudinal tract of fascia on the thigh; in the mink, the vastus lateralis is situated deep to it.
