What are the particles in gas like?
They have the most energy out of the 3 states of matter, as the particles are the most spread out with a random arrangement
What are the particles in a liquid like?
these particles have more energy than those of a solid but still less than a gas; the particles are closer together but still have a random arrangement
What are the particles like in a solid?
They have the least energy- the particles aren’t moving but vibrating and are arranged regularly and very closely together
What are interconversions?
The changing of state from one form to another, this involves physical changes
What would be considered a physical change?
This involves the forces between the particles of substances
Where do melting and freezing take place?
At the melting point
What is it called when a solid changes to a liquid and vice versa?
S-L = Melting
L-S = Freezing
At what point do boiling and condensing take place?
At the boiling point
What is it called when a liquid changes to a gas and vice versa?
L-G = boiling
G-L = condensing
What happens to the particles when you change from solid to liquid to gas?
The particles gain more kinetic energy, move around more and become more randomly arranged and further apart
What happens to the particles when you move from a gas to a liquid to a solid?
The particles lose kinetic energy, move less and become more regularly arranged and closer together
