http.createServer()
A method in Node.js's core http module used to create a web server that accepts a callback function with req (request) and res (response) parameters.
server.listen()
A method used to start an HTTP server listening on a specified port number (PORT) and execute a callback function once active.
res.statusCode
A property on the Node.js response object set to an HTTP status code, such as 200 for OK or 404 for Not Found.
res.setHeader()
A method on the response object used to set HTTP headers, such as setting Content-Type to text/html or text/plain so the browser knows how to render content.
nodemon
A project development dependency installed via npm install nodemon --save-dev that enables hot reloading by monitoring file changes and automatically restarting the server.
Postman
A tool used to send HTTP requests (such as GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE) to test server endpoints and verify responses without using a browser user interface.
Express.js
A web application framework for Node.js used to handle HTTP requests, construct API endpoint handlers, manage middleware, and connect to databases.
req.params
An object in Express containing dynamic URL parameters mapped to named route paths defined with a colon (such as :id).
Array.prototype.findIndex()
A JavaScript array method used in route handlers (such as DELETE) to identify the array index of an item that matches a specified condition.
Array.prototype.splice()
A JavaScript array method used inside route handlers to remove a specified number of items from an array starting at a designated index.
Middleware
Functions in Express that execute during the request-response cycle and have access to the request object (req), response object (res), and the next function.
next()
A callback function passed to Express middleware that, when invoked, passes control to the next middleware function or route handler in the chain.
express.json()
A built-in Express middleware function that parses incoming request payloads containing JSON data and populates the req.body object.
express.Router()
An Express method that creates a modular, mountable route handler instance for organizing routes, middleware, and data handlers into separate files.
app.use()
An Express method used to mount middleware functions or modular router files to specified endpoint paths or globally across all incoming requests.
phpMyAdmin
A web-based user interface tool accessed through MAMP to execute SQL queries, view tables, and manage MySQL databases and user accounts.
CREATE USER
A SQL statement used to establish a new database user account with specified host permissions and credentials (e.g., CREATE USER 'todo_app_user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY '!k+Y2J';).
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES
A SQL statement used to assign full administrative permissions over a specific database and its tables to a designated database user.
AUTO_INCREMENT
A SQL column attribute applied to numeric primary keys (such as id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT) to automatically increment integer values by 1 for each new record.
mysql2
A Node.js package installed via npm install mysql2 --save that provides driver functions to connect Express applications to a MySQL database.
connection.query()
A method provided by mysql2 that takes a SQL statement string and a callback function (err, results) to execute queries against a database.
CRUD Operations
An acronym for Create, Read, Update, and Delete, which directly map to the HTTP request methods POST, GET, PUT, and DELETE in server-side scripting.
