Vocabulary practice flashcards covering Pre-Employment Functional Assessments (PEFA), statutory medical examinations, performance test criteria, Functional Movement Screen (FMS) scoring guidelines, clearing tests, and standardized functional protocols.
Pre-Employment Functional Assessment (PEFA)
An integrated, functional assessment approach incorporating principles of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), muscle synergy, and motor learning to evaluate an individual's physical preparedness and functional capacity for a specific job role.
Performance Tests (in PEFA)
Tests that gather baseline quantitative information based on standardized normative data to eliminate subjective variation and assess specific physiological and biomechanical requirements of a role.
Order 43
A statutory regulation effective 1 July 2018 that governs NSW Coal Board medical examinations for workers in the coal industry.
HUET Medical
A statutory pre-participation medical examination required for Helicopter Underwater Escape Training, typically for offshore personnel.
OGUK Medical
A statutory pre-employment offshore medical assessment scheme (formerly known as UKOOA) for workers in the offshore oil and gas industry.
Functional Movement Tests
Dynamic assessments evaluating fundamental movement patterns, dynamic stability, mobility, and kinetic linking system function to predict performance and prevent injury.
Kinetic Linking System
The sequential activation and coordinated movement of interconnected body segments required for optimal performance during functional and locomotor tasks.
Kinaesthetic Awareness
An individual's sensory awareness of the position and movement of body parts in space, assessed during functional movement screening.
Deep Squat (FMS Score 3 Criteria)
A movement screen scored 3 when the upper torso is parallel with the tibia or toward vertical, the femur is below horizontal, knees are aligned over feet, and the dowel is held overhead aligned over feet without elevating the heels.
Hurdle Step (FMS Score 3 Criteria)
A movement screen scored 3 when the hips, knees, and ankles remain aligned in the sagittal plane, minimal to no movement is noted in the lumbar spine, and the dowel and hurdle remain parallel.
Inline Lunge (FMS Score 3 Criteria)
A movement screen scored 3 when three points of dowel contact are maintained vertically, dowel and feet remain in the sagittal plane, no torso movement is noted, and the back knee touches the board behind the heel of the front foot.
Shoulder Mobility Test (FMS)
A functional movement assessment scored 3 if fists are within 1 hand length, 2 if within 1.5 hand lengths, and 1 if not within 1.5 hand lengths.
Shoulder Mobility Clearing Test
A bilateral screening maneuver where the individual places their hand on the opposite shoulder and points the elbow upward; if pain occurs, a score of zero (0) is assigned.
Active Straight-Leg Raise (FMS Score 3 Criteria)
A movement screen scored 3 when the vertical line of the moving limb's malleolus resides between the mid-thigh and ASIS while the non-moving limb remains neutral.
Trunk Stability Pushup (FMS Score 3 Criteria)
A core stability assessment scored 3 when the body lifts as a unit with no spine lag, performed with thumbs aligned to the top of the head for men or aligned to the chin for women.
Spinal Extension Clearing Test
A clearing screen performed via a prone press-up from the pushup position; if pain is associated with the movement, a score of zero (0) is given.
Rotary Stability Test (FMS)
A multi-planar core stability test scored 3 for completing a correct unilateral repetition (same side elbow and knee touch) or 2 for a correct diagonal repetition.
Spinal Flexion Clearing Test
A screen cleared in a quadruped position by rocking back buttocks to heels with chest touching thighs and hands reaching out forward; if pain is present, a score of zero (0) is given.
Traffic Light System
A clinical rating framework used in range of motion assessment to categorize movement findings into standardized clearance or risk categories.
PAR-Q Questionnaire
A physical activity readiness questionnaire used prior to testing to ascertain whether a candidate is medically safe to perform a functional assessment, screening for indicators like chest pain or dizziness.
Postural Tolerances Test (KINNECT Protocol)
A pre-employment functional test requiring the candidate to maintain a balanced kneel and squat posture for ≥30seconds.
Cardiovascular Fitness Step Test (KINNECT Protocol)
An aerobic assessment within pre-employment screening requiring stepping for 3minutes using a step height of 30.5cm.
Job Dictionary
A workplace document detailing the physical, physiological, and biomechanical demands of specific job tasks, used to formulate role-specific functional assessments and return-to-work plans.
