Conditional Form (条件形 /じょうけんけい）

条件形・じょうけんけい Conditional form

"If" or "When" meaning that describes a condition required for a certain result

[Group 1] Do not end in る or verbs ending in る but before have a あ or う sound EX) 飲む・書く・話す・買う・待つ・死ぬ・遊ぶ・読む・切る・行く

Change the う sound to an え sound and add ば. EX) 飲む → 飲めば ・書く → 書けば・話す → 話せば

[Group 2] Verbs ending in る with an え or い sound preceding it EX) 食べる・起きる・見る・教える・浴びる・借りる・すぎる・できる・落ちる・忘れる

Drop る and add れば. EX) 起きる → 起きれば ・食べる → 食べれば・見る → 見れば

[Irregular] Special verbs that do not follow regular rules EX) する・来る

する changes to すれば and 来る くる changes to 来れば くれば. EX) する → すれば・来る → 来れば

飲む

飲めば EX) 水を飲めば元気になります ("If I drink water I will feel better")

書く

書けば EX) レポートを書けば帰ることができます ("If I write the report I can go home")

話す

話せば EX) ゆっくり話せばみんな分かります ("If I speak slowly everyone will understand")

食べる

食べれば EX) 野菜を食べれば体にいいです ("If I eat vegetables it is good for my body")

起きる

起きれば EX) 早く起きれば散歩に行きます ("If I wake up early I will go for a walk")

見る

見れば EX) この映画を見れば泣いてしまいます ("If I watch this movie I will cry")

来る

来れば EX) 友達が来れば一緒に勉強します ("If my friend comes we will study together")

する

すれば EX) 宿題をすればゲームができます ("If I do my homework I can play games"
