Epistemology
The study of knowledge, questioning how we know what we know.
Research methods
Techniques used to find out about the world and gather evidence.
Evidence
Information used to support a conclusion or theory.
Chaos theory
A paradigm that deals with deterministic systems whose behavior can be predicted but is complex and influenced by small variables. popularly known as the “butterfly effect”
Deterministic systems
Systems where outcomes are determined by initial conditions and laws, but may still be unpredictable.
Correlation
A measure of the relationship between two variables where changes in one may correspond to changes in the other.
Causation
The relationship between cause and effect, proving that one event causes another.
Double-blind study
An experimental design in which both the participants and the experimenters do not know who receives the treatment.
Placebo effect
The improvement of symptoms due to the expectation of treatment rather than the treatment itself.
Analogue studies
Research that investigates phenomena related to a subject under controlled conditions.
External validity
The extent to which research findings can be generalized to, or have relevance for settings or participants beyond the study.
Case study
An in-depth analysis of an individual or group that may challenge a general theory or offer new insights.
Heuristic value
The usefulness of a method or study in generating insights or understanding.
Clinical innovation
Application of experimental ideas in clinical practice, testing new interventions.
Effective technique
A method that achieves desired results in therapy, regardless of its theoretical foundation.
Theoretical framework
A set of concepts and ideas that guide clinical practice and decision-making.
Experimental methods
Research techniques that manipulate an independent variable to study its effect on a dependent variable.
Hypothesis
A proposed explanation or prediction that can be tested through research and experimentation.
Research findings
Results obtained from conducting experiments or studies.
Theoretical notions
Beliefs or principles that inform clinical practices and influence treatment decisions.
