Action and Reaction Forces
When one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object simultaneously exerts a force of equal magnitude and in the opposite direction on the first object.
Internal Forces
Forces that act between elements within a system and do not cause the system as a whole to accelerate.
External Force
A force acting on an object or system from outside the system, causing acceleration of the system as a whole.
Newton's Third Law
States that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Updraft
A current of rising air, created when air is pushed downward, leading to an upward flow of air.
Recoil
The backward movement of an object when it exerts a force forward.
System
A set of interacting components considered to be a distinct physical entity.
Acceleration
The rate of change of velocity of an object over time.
Contact Force
The force that one surface exerts on another when the two surfaces are in contact.
V Formation
A flying formation where objects align in a V shape to take advantage of aerodynamic benefits.
