flow of blood in heart
sa to av → bundles (r to l) → fasicles → purjunke fibers
movement of positively charged ions across cell
membrane
Depolarization
reverse flow of ions (i.e., cell becomes more
negative)
Repolarization
EKG measures the _______ flow of electricity
average
atrial depolarization is what wave
P Wave
ventricular depolarization is what wave
QRS Complex
ventricular repolarization is what wave
T Wave

PR Interval
the time from
start of atrial depolarization to
start of ventricular
depolarization
PR Segment
the time from
end of atrial depolarization to
the start of ventricular
depolarization
QT Interval
the time from the
start ventricular depolarization
to the end of ventricular
repolarization
1 small box
↕ = 0.1 mV
↔ = 0.04 sec
1 large box
(5×5 small boxes)
↔ = 0.2 sec
maybe learn box methods (come back to this)
Rules for naming the QRS Complex:
• The first upward deflection is called an R
wave
• The first downward deflection following
an upward deflection is called an S wave
• If there is a second upward deflection, it
is called R’
• If the entire wave is just a downward
deflection, it’s called a QS wave
• If the first deflection is downward but
followed by an upward deflection, it is
called a Q wave
